Richard and Penny Barnden had thought about downsizing from their 15th century farmhouse in High Hurstwood but weren’t seriously considering the idea when fate took a hand. When a surprise offer came their way Richard and Penny decided to take advantage - and have ended up with a delightful new home at Rydon’s Sunnybrooke development in Uckfield.

“With an offer on our property we had to look for a home but found ourselves viewing smaller versions of the farmhouse – and every one we saw needed work doing,” says Penny.  “One day, whilst I was at work my husband went to look at a brand new house and couldn’t believe the quality of the interiors – and so we started to think a new home could be an option for us.”

“We started to write a list of needs and wants.  We were keen to stay in East Sussex and I wanted to be able to walk to the shops for the first time in my married life,” continues Penny.  “We typed East Sussex and new build into the internet search engine and it came up with Rydon’s Sunnybrooke in Uckfield.  As soon as we walked into one of the houses here we looked at each other and said we could live here.  The strange thing is that, even though it’s so close to our former property, I didn’t know Sunnybrooke was here!”

Sunnybrooke has been something of a hidden secret.  Tucked away down a quiet, country-style lane, the development is only half a mile from Uckfield’s High Street.  The development has proved so popular that all the new homes are now reserved but Rydon Homes is achieving similar success with Heatherview in nearby Crowborough, a development of two, three and four bedroom houses in an elevated position about a mile and a half from Crowborough station.

“The position of Sunnybrooke and of our house, which overlooks the wildlife area on the fringes of the development, means that it’s really quiet here,” adds Penny. “In fact some of my friends were really surprised when we moved from a very rural area to Uckfield but living at Sunnybrooke is just like being in the country.  It’s lovely and we can’t fault Rydon Homes’ customer service – we’re really very happy.”
