Guests had plenty to celebrate at the opening as Natalie Flint, Sales & Marketing Director for Rydon Homes, took the opportunity to announce that planning permission has been granted for a new village shop in Rydon’s former marketing suite at Bourn Meadows.
This news was particularly apt given Francis Maude’s presence. Last autumn, Francis Maude officiated at the opening of a new footpath and Rydon Homes organised a sponsored walk to mark the event with funds donated to the new community shop. Kirdford’s original village store closed down over a year ago and the new shop will be owned by local residents, run by a shop manager and staffed by volunteers.
The new village shop is not the only benefit that Bourn Meadows brings to Kirdford. At the heart of this development of just 20 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, is a brand new village green which will be handed over to the council as a local amenity when the development is complete.
“In most villages there is strong opposition to new development but here, in Kirdford, the villagers have supported this new development which is bringing a number of benefits to the community and will enhance the village,” commented Francis Maude. “The site had become an eyesore and this new development, with its sympathetic Sussex Weald vernacular design, is a welcome addition to one of the area’s most picturesque villages.”
“We are extremely grateful for Francis Maude’s interest in, and support of, Bourn Meadows,” says Natalie Flint. “This small, mixed use development provides something for everyone; there is a fantastic mix of traditional-style house types, some affordable housing, commercial units, which have already been reserved by small, local businesses and now a village shop.”
There has already been plenty of interest in Bourn Meadows; eight of the thirteen homes in the first phase of development have already been sold with plenty of interest in the remaining homes priced from £315,000 for a two-bedroom house.
